(I love 1, 6, and 12!)

Working from home online is not a new concept, though people are only just starting to catch on to the benefits of it. Most people see it as an impossible task that they can only dream of doing. Some think it seems too good to be true, and only those with crazy college degrees and a lot of financial boosts can do.

I’m here to tell you, that’s not true! You don’t need a ton of money to start working from home. You don’t need to have gone to school for half of your life, working to get a degree that you’ll probably never use.

We all have our reasons for why we think working from home would be a great alternative.

Maybe it’s because you hate your job and it takes everything in you to get yourself out of bed each morning to go clock-in at a life-sucking, stressful job. It could be that you can’t stand the person or company you work for. Perhaps you just want to spend more time with your family!

The truth is, working from home CAN be your reality. Anyone can work at home, even with little to no experience.

In fact, I wrote an entire eBook for FREE with 200+ ways to make money from home. Let me know how I can send it to below.

In this post, I am going to give you 13 of the best work-from-home online jobs that you can start TODAY. Whether you want to start making it a full-time income, or if you just want even a little extra money on the side. So let’s get started.

1. Proofreading

Do you cringe at the sight of spelling and grammatical errors? Some that bother me the most is when people mix up the difference between there, their, and they’re. How about the difference between “then” and “than”? Or “won’t” and “want”. If you’re like me, then this work-from-home job will probably be perfect for you.

How much can I make?

On average, proofreaders make $20.17 per hour and up to $63,080 per year according to bls.gov. You can make even more if you create your own proofreading business, rather than working through a third-party company (we’ll get into that more in a bit).

What are the requirements?

For a freelance proofreader job, you will need a computer or laptop, a good internet connection, and fluency of the language the content is in. You will also need means to conduct the proofreading, such as through Microsoft Word. This is typically a position that requires no college education unless otherwise stated.

A great tool you can use to help make your job easier is Grammarly. It’s free to sign up and it catches your grammar and spelling mistakes while providing alternative words that can make your writing better.

What type of job is it?

Part-time, Full-time, Freelance, or start your own business

How can I become a Proofreader?

Although proofreading seems like a simple task, when you are doing it to earn good money, it is a bit more intense. Accordingly, you will want to get some training to ensure you are the best at proofreading.

I recommend taking the Proofread Anywhere: Theory and Practice Workshop by Caitlyn. She has been proofreading since 2007 and has helped thousands of people earn a full-time income by proofreading.

The workshop is completely FREE and it is incredibly informational. She teaches you all about how to make money proofreading and how to adjust to the learning curve. The amount of information you get in this free workshop is actually pretty phenomenal especially since you don’t have to pay a dime.

What is Proofreading?

A Proofreader is a person that corrects content by ensuring it is free of grammatical and spelling errors.

I first started proofreading as a college student. Seeing grammatical and spelling errors was a major pet-peeve for me, so I naturally gravitated towards offering people to edit for them. I soon realized my talent as people began getting stellar grades on the paper’s I edited for them, so I started using it as a side-hustle to help with college expenses.

From a more professional standpoint, proofreaders typically work for publishers, newspapers, advertisers, and book authors. The highest paying industries for this job are in legal services, management, and labor amongst others.

As a proofreader, you can also work under the directive of yourself (freelance) and find companies that need a specific document edited. If your work is exceptional this can lead to more opportunities with that company, and may even result in a full-time job with them.

Where can I find Proofreading jobs for beginners?

If you are considering becoming a proofreader, I recommend the following sites to find work:

  • Flexjobs
  • Upwork
  • Wordvice
  • Proofreadingservices
  • Scribendi
  • ProofreadNow
  • Fiverr
  • Freelancer.com

A proofreader edits a multitude of documents across various industries. This next job is a little more specific.

What is a Scopist?

Scopists have been around for decades, however most people have never heard of such a profession. These workers edit steno transcripts for court reporters to help them save time in the editing process. Wait, what?

Okay, let’s back up. A court reporter records his or her work using a steno machine, which is connected to a software that translates the shorthand into English. The court reporter then sends the transcript to the Scopist for editing, which may include checking the format, punctuation, spelling, etc.

Court reporters are paid per page, so Scopist are invaluable and in high-demand as they maximize the productivity and volume of pages the court reporter can submit in an optimal amount of time.

How can I become a scopist?

First you will want to seek scoping training, since much of the job is not common knowledge. A great source is Internet Scoping School created by Linda. You can get the entire course, or you can complete it section by section.

One of her students, Darci, is making $4,500 per month just from scoping! Linda also offers a free mini course.

Once you have completed training, you can start work immediately.
